Phase 0 development team seminar
This program is designed for the competency modeling and
reporting (CMAR) development team getting started (or bogged down) in a new project. The
biggest mistake CMAR teams make is to begin the project without having made (or
understood) the required initial design decisions. The result is project-breaking problems
later on in the development cycle.
This session will educate CMAR development teams on the
definitions and concepts of competency modeling, and state-of-the-art best practices in
competency modeling success. The team will then be led through the required series of
design decisions leading to a specific plan, timeline, and budget for the project. At this
point the project will be fully scoped, and ready for management commitment of
resources and actual implementation (Phase 1).
The result is a project that will not generate design
surprises later in its lifecycle, and can be completed to plan and within budget.
How to conduct competency assessments for
managers
The critical factor in the success of a CMAR project is how
well managers and supervisors assessment, counsel, and plan employee development. These
skills may appear similar to those required for performance reviews, but are actually
quite different in concept and application.
This session teaches managers and supervisors how to
support the three primary goals of an effective CMAR system: validity, reliability, and
accuracy. Attendees will learn how to:
Provide
input to competency models and standards
Interpret the
organizations specific model and assessment
methodology
Counsel employees on
assessment results
Use competency
reports to create prioritized employee
development plans
How to complete competency assessments for
employees
Many CMAR systems require employees to self-assess or to
provide 360 degree assessment of co-workers. If no training for this task is provided, the
employee-based assessment is little more than a satisfaction survey of traits and
opinions. This program provides employees with the skills to support an accurate, valid,
and reliable assessment of themselves and co-workers.
