issues

You may receive the following errors when you attempt Step 6 in the Competency Coach working model installation instructions ("Effective Competency Modeling and Reporting," Appendix, page 333):

    Error 111
Cannot write to a read-only file.
    VSETUPOI

or you may encounter the following error when first trying to run Competency Coach on a Windows system:

    Error 1098
CTL3D.DLL is in an invalid library or path
    LOAD3D

solution for Error 111

Any time files are copied from a CD-ROM disc, they retain a read-only attribute that is causing the error. The solution is to select all of the files in the "CC-Work" directory, open the Properties and clear the read-only attribute. Here is a procedure that works for a typical Windows PC:

Before Step 6 in the Appendix (page 333):

Open "My Computer" (click or double click).

Open the "C:" drive (or the hard drive containing Competency Coach).

Open the "CC-Work" folder.

Go to the "Edit" menu in Windows and choose "Select All" (or press <CTRL-A>).

Right-click on one of the selected filenames.

Select "Properties" from the menu.

Click on the check box next to "Read-only" (the "Read-only" check box should then be empty).

Click the <OK> button.

Continue with Step 6 in the Appendix.

This removes the Read-only status of all selected files and will eliminate the error.

solution for Error 1098

If you encounter this error, you have a Windows operating system that is missing the CTL3D.DLL file that is used by the application. This is no longer included in some of the standard load versions of Windows. To obtain this file and place it in the location expected by Competency Coach, do the following:

(1) Get the file on the Internet. Go to http://www.google.com and perform a search on "CTL3D.DLL download" (omit the quotes in the Google search field.) There are many sites that make this file available.

(2) Download the CTL3D.DLL file. If it is compressed in .zip or another compression format, uncompress it.

(3) Copy the CTL3D.DLL file into the following folders:

         c:\windows\system
         c:\windows\system32

              (or)
           c:\winnt\system32 (required by Windows 2000)

This should resolve the problems. If not, contact CooperComm for further support.
